Sélestat (map) is a French town in Bas-Rhin, Alsace, in north-eastern France. It covers 44.4 sq km (17.14 sq mi) on an elevation between 165 m (541 ft) and 184 m (604 ft). The town has a population of around 20,000.

Sélestat is one of the many picturesque towns in Alsace. It is located 22 km (14 mi) north of the equally charming Colmar and 49 km (29 mi) south of Strasbourg, the regional capital of Alsace. The town is on the left bank of the Ill River, in the Alsatian wine country.
Sélestat is today a popular tourist destination for its numerous historic buildings that have been well preserved. Among the sights in Sélestat includes the Romanesque Église Sainte-Foy (Church of St. Faith) and the Gothic Église Saint-Georges (Church of St. George) as well as the Baroque clocktower and Neo-Medieval water tower.
Sélestat was the intellectual center of Alsace during the Middle Ages. Its Humanist Library has one of the best collections of medieval manuscripts and Renaissance books in the world, including the oldest document that mentions America, dating to 1507.
